Singapore is blessed with the opportunity to celebrate a wide array of cultural holidays. But it is also during the festive season that the vulnerable and underprivileged can often feel left out. Through years of companionship and home visits, Tzu Chi volunteers have built family-like bonds with those facing hardship or those living alone without the support of loved ones. Therefore, during festive occasions, Tzu Chi volunteers invite them to “return home” — to the Jing Si Hall — to share in the warmth and joy of the celebrations.
For example, for this year’s Deepavali, we organised a carnival-like celebration at the Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre. It was replete with games, henna painting, and rangoli drawing — all aimed at spreading blessings to the participants. There was even a dance performance by the residents from SEEN.
