Don't Be a Victim: Protect Yourself from Scams

Did you know that about one in five people have been scammed in the past three years? How can we protect our families and ourselves from falling victim to fraudulent activities?

Recently, fraudsters have repeatedly impersonated Tzu Chi's name and intellectual property, setting up misleading websites and social media accounts to publish false information.

To fight against scams, we have a simple strategy we call the "P.C.R. Test" to share with you.

P - Pause

Scammers often try to steal money through tactics like requesting one-time passwords (OTPs) or sensitive personal information. Some even resort to installing apps on your devices to access crucial data.

They thrive on creating a sense of urgency and fear, manipulating you into acting impulsively.  Take a pause and think before responding to any suspicious message.

If you want to block scam calls confirmed by the government, you can install the government-launched “ScamShield” mobile application.
Tzu Chi does not require the installation of any apps for its services, nor do we force individuals to take specific actions immediately when interacting with them.

C - Check

Verify any suspicious information or encounters through official Tzu Chi channels:

R - Report

If you have faced financial, personal information, or intellectual property losses, file an online police report immediately. Collect evidence such as the scammer's contact details, chat screenshots, recordings, screen captures, etc.

In addition, if you find a misleading Facebook accounts that pretend to be someone or spread false information, follow these steps to report the profile:
Every user has the right to report fake accounts. The more reports received, the faster Facebook will take action. Please rest assured that the identity of the reporter is confidential and the fake account will not know.

With scams on the rise, Tzu Chi is closely monitoring the situation. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and work together to combat scams.
